FRETS.NET

I have a customer who dreams up odd things , and asks me to make them real....He wanted a six string guitar tuned in 5ths...The low string is F , above the low E string on a bass...To a high E as on a normally tuned guitar..With a Bigsby...He trusted me on the looks...I made a laminated adjustable bridge , with ebony for the center section...Some cool binding I found on the interwebs...Lipstick humbucker...It's hollow , with a bookmatched ash top..And a spalted control plate....I wish I would have done the headstock to match the body more , and may still do so in the future..

What string combo did you use?

10....15.....30.....40......62.....90...

That... is a very large F string. It must be hilarious to do a dive bomb with that thing.

Very cool!

If  you get into more work with that kind of tuning, you might want to take a look at the "fan fret" system  - you can mess around with differential scale lengths along with string gauges.

That would have cost him more than twice as much....I purchased a baritone neck for this...The cost of a hand made neck was prohibitive for him...This is a one-off...

A fan fret  board and neck also would have been a one-off also, but I have no clue who would have made it. It sure would have involved a total redesign of the whole idea of this axe...
