Can I buy strings with covers on the loop twists? I have some on a mandolin but can't find new ones.

If it's rubber you could get very small heat shrink tubing and make your own...if it's wrapped,I don't know.

They look like little lengths of pipe cleaner - red in colour.

Hi, John. Why not do your own? I assume you're looking for a thread wrapped look. You can wrap them just like a fishing rod builder wraps guides on rods. Lot's of different threads at fabric stores and fly fishing stores and probably plenty of web sites that show how to start and finish the wraps. Go crazy with different colors. Or just go crazy.

Good question. It belonged to my sister as a teenager. She does not know I have it and I wanted to restore to original condition before giving for 50th birthday.
