Does anyone know exactly what the neck joint on a 1967 Gibson Trini Lopez looks like?
I have a guitar in the shop today, and I think we are going to have to re-set the neck. Anyone had one of these apart?

This is a link to a discussion we recently had. Thanks to forum member & friend, Robbie Collins for the excellent photos & narrative :)
Also, there were 2 Trini models. The Standard and the Custom. The custom was a deep bodied semi-hollow body (or full hollow) double cutaway with twin Florentine cutaways. They were actually 2 completely different classes of guitars(?). The referenced post applies to the Standard model, which is an absolute steal in today's market...but I digress :)
Hope this helps & best of luck :)
Thanks Paul,
I did read that before I posted my question, but I am still unsure of the actual joint. Is it a standard Gibson dovetail? The neck block is a stacked laminate. I am assuming the neck is dovetailed into that. But I would like to know before I go "steaming" my way into this one.
Sorry, Keith.
I only know what was revealed in that post. It seems to be a "unique" adaptation.
Hopefully, perhaps someone that's a Gibson Authorized Service Provider can chime in with the answer.
:) P
Thanks Paul,
A agree, maybe someone with Gibson Authorized Service status has seen these necks off. I am authorized for Fender and Taylor, but not yet Gibson. So I don't have any good contacts at Gibson.
Hi Keith.
As of yet i haven’t been able to get round to removing the neck so no pictures to post.
Your best bet is to remove the neck pickup and measure the width of the tenon then remove the 17, 19, 21 22 fret and use the stewmac steamer needle or similar to steam it out which will take an hour if your lucky.
I think it will be the same as the 335 neck joint but depends on who fitted it at the time and how they fitted the pocket out. Sorry i can’t help any more what already been posted on here.
If you can post pictures on here when you do it i’d be interested to see what it looks like as you know there isn’t anything available online as of yet.
Best of luck. MG
Keith: Mark Griffiths contacted me about the Trini Lopez neck joint saying he was about to remove one. You might contact him. Check the end of the thread Paul mentioned.
