Traditional Truss Rod Install Question Anchor Nut Question

Hi all. I am replacing the broken truss rod of a Gretsch Clipper. I have done all of the excavation and am awaiting my delivery from Stew mac. I ordered the traditional truss rod as it is identical to the rod I removed. I have a couple questions about the install process of the new rod I was hoping you might clear up for me.

1) When screwing the truss rod into the anchor nut, is there somethng I should do to ensure that the rod doesn't come loose from this nut? I was thinking that once I have screwed the anchor nut on, I should do something like smack the end with a hammer to bond the two pieces permanently. I understand the term smacking with a hammer  sounds barbaric, but the general idea of cold forging??

2) The original rod was glued along the entire bottom of the channel and covered with a hefty piece of mahogany. Since the rod will not be turning, I suppose this makes sense, but I am looking for confirmation on this.

I shoud add that the picture of the rod was just pulled off of the Stew Mac website. I just wnated to post it to show what the rod looks like.

Hi Matt,

Thread it and then TIG/MIG weld it on (at the end of the rod where the thread protrudes a tad from the anchor ) - that way it'll never come loose.  The cost of having a metal work shop do a two minute job  is far less than the cost of having to dig it out again.

Rusty.

Thank you Russell. I will do just that.
