Anyone know how to tie on nylon viol frets?

There are numerous equally effective ways to tie frets.These are all about the same, but you can use simpler knots and they will work.




Tie them an inch or so toward the nut from where they will end up. After tying the knot, you can slide them up the neck; as the neck becomes larger, the knot tightens. And be sure and place the knot where it doesn't interfere with your hand during playing.

I personally prefer real gut because you can tie them damp and they shrink as they dry.

well, gut is better,no kidding. the first shown in David van Edwards' diagram here is the easiest and I think the best:

this is for a single wrap but may work fine if you want more than one wrap.
gut actually delivers a nicer sound and feel.it's not just a question of being slavishly "traditional".I've never dampened them, gut is very tough and stretchy and you can pull it up very hard and then squinch it to where you need it.
