No Bracing?

I wonder if it's feasible to make a flat-top guitar with the top thick enough as needed in various places so that no bracing is required. Has this approach been tried?

I started a "braceless guitar" topic on the OLF a while back as I was contemplating a Nomex build ala Charles Fox's Ergo design. There were several good points for and against removing traditional bracing patterns for instruments that you may find interesting.
