As a new member - hello luthiers. I'm the proud owner of a 1922 F4 with Cremonia sunburst that I purchased from the original owner maybe 25 years ago. One of the gears (4th) has begun slipping. I've tried replacing with some from my stash but nothing to help. The worm seems fine. Can anyone help me locate a proper gear. Thanks

A couple other things to check first if you haven't already.

Are the string post bushings pressed all the way in? It's quite common for them to raise up and allow the string post to lean forward. If they are press them back in with a dot of Elmers glue to help make them stay put.

Check your tail piece. Inspect the tangs that hold the loop end of the string and make sure there is no bending or damage Also check the screws that mount the tail piece to the body. They should be snug and the tail piece should have no movement. It is also common to find cracks where the tail piece screws are installed, sometimes extending into the tail block. This can allow some movement of the tail piece and if you have them they should be repaired.

If your tuner is the culprit, ask over at The Mandolin Cafe for parts and/or search Ebay.
Thanks for the reply - tail piece and bushings are in good working order, Its definitely the gear or worm.
