Anyone have any info regarding truss rod anchor on a solid maple (fender) neck, vintage style single action,adjuster at bottom.

I have taken apart many necks, but have never had the experience of ripping into a solid maple fender neck. What's behind the walnut plug at the headstock? Can't be round. Fender wouldn't send me the drawing, but the tech described a square nut with opposing corners rounded over.

If you don't have access - the anchor is knurled/splined and round and the truss rod anchor is relatively close to the surface of the fingerboard at that point (about a 1/4 inch back from the nut) and about 1/8 inch from the surface (on the vintage necks with the walnut plugs). Thanks for the link Rusty. That perfectly illustrates the channel. What does the nut look like, and what would you call it? I imagine it has teeth and looks like a gear, face on.

Nick, never dug one out....splined would be my best bet but one never knows with guitar makers - can only say that whatever it is it doesn't allow rotation!. Rusty.

what about the newer ones... with the 1/8" allen head nut at the headstock.. I have one on the bench (1997 strat) with the broke off end of an allen wrench wedged tightly in the nut... ugh
