I'm working on a 1986 D28 that had a large (fist size) hole knocked in the back. Somebody tried to put the pieces back together. A few small pieces were missing. I took the pieces back out to get a more level surface.  I've got the pieces back in and as level as they would allow. While level sanding the repair, some of it went through the finish. Rather than the brown, aged look of the rest of the rosewood on the guitar, these spots now look like (what they are), freshly sanded rosewood. I tinted my lacguer a little but as I thought it would, it only made the wood darker. Has anyone had success bleaching or oxidizing rosewood to match older wood?

No, seriously I believe it's safe if handled properly. I don't believe I would ever attempt to spray it though. Here's the mandocafe thread as well:

Seems to be a similar mix of opinions.....
I think every solution related to chrome should be avoided : if you hand it properly, and get no harm, you took a risk, but it's your own health, no problem with that, everyone is free to try and increase his cancer's risk. But every towel or cup used to store it or wipe or anything used it is contaminated. And when you'll thrown away, it will a day or another be back in the water and in the earth : and that is a real poison for animals, plants, trees, vegetables you will eat, water you will drink,... etc... That's why Kerry told everything that was in contact with the spill had to be sent for decontamination in a specialized company. And that only fact should be enough for us to avoid using that kind of thing, for we all love trees don't we?
A big thanks to Mr Ford. The hide glue tip workede great. Its closer to the right color than I had hoped for. Now for a little smoke and mirrors. It ain't going away, but it'll be a lot better. Again, Thanks
Good to hear it David. I'll remember it.
