I have a curly Maple back, I would like to use for a size 5 unit. It's my understanding to be around .110 for thickness....but this piece is sanded to .092 already.

Would you build with this thickness for a back?

For my tastes, it's a little thin but I don't see why it would not work if braced a little stiffer than normal to compensate for the difference.
go for it.........
Hi Michael, I have made most of my guitars with a 2.5mm back which is about the thickness that you have.
The bracing on the back, I use 3/4 wide X 1/2 in tall for the lower bout and the next one up towards the neck,
for the next two I use 1/2 inch wide X 1/2 inch tall. I use a 25 foot rad. on the brace and take sharp edges off the top of the brace and scallop the ends to your liking ( about 1/16 in.) and then put it all together.( don't forget to put a center strip)
Hope this helps and you understand what I'm trying to convey to you.
Peace, Donald
Yes Donald, I understand...your answer was quite clear. This all confirms my own feeling that all will be fine with this back. Being a size 5 also makes it less an issue, I think.

Thanks to Doug and Tim also.

Onward then.

Michael
