FRETS.NET

Got something interesting in the shop at the moment, a Marlin Grabber Bass, like the thread title says a fender copy made in old east Germany, before the reunification. I'd guess it's from the seventies, no date on it, just a sticker with "made in GDR" on it. The guy who bought it died about 10 years ago, and his brother, who has it now, hasn't any idea. He's a good doctor, but he don't know sh*t about guitars, lol.
But to my problem: as well as all kinds of other nasty things wrong with it, which I'm slowly getting on top of, it has a nasty ding in the fretboard (see pics), or should I say neck, as it appears to be a one-piece maple neck, just like the real one. I'm not sure how I should repair it, I'm leaning towards using epoxy to dropfill it, and then polishing to finish. Anyone got any better ideas?

My first thought is to steam it. Although it may be too deep for that to come back all the way, but I'd try that maybe.

good photos by the way.

Thanks for the idea: I'll try that, and see how far I get. I can't take any real credit for the pics: an old hobby of mine was photography (before digital, with a film in the camera, remember that?), but in the shop I use a Samsung compact 10.1 MP that cost €90 : Point and click, the computer does the rest :-)

Fill it, steam it, it's still gonna be a commie bass. I suggest you read it The Wealth of Nations and then take it with you to the NYSE.
