I have an Alabama 6string banjo. The tension of the strings has caused the bridge to become concave, so the strings radius inward rather than outward. The skin, a Remo, may be too slack. I know nothing about these instruments. Does anyone know how to either tighten the skin or is there another solution for this problem?

The danger of overtightening the head is obvious. A mylar head like a Remo shouldn't sag more than an eighth inch or so. Put a shim under the middle foot of the bridge.

What type of shim would you propose Greg?

I always have hobby-store birch plywood around for stuff like this; it comes in all sorts of thicknesses. If you have to jack up that middle foot a lot you may have to do it in  two stages.
