I have an old Gibson SG bass that's been in a case in my closet for about the last 15 years. When I was using it regularly,I cracked the headstock.I then took it to a repairman, who fixed it.It plays fine and stays in tune perfectly. On the back of the headstock are the numbers 952851 and 'Made in USA'.I believe it's an EB3.It does have the usual wear and tear form being around for awhile.Just wonder when it was made and how much it might be worth. Thanks much.

Judging by all the comments it's either priceless or worthless.
just like your comment
after 1970 USA was added to the back of the peg head.

Vintage guitar says around 500.00.

Check E bay.

Hi Russ,

It is an EB-3 from between 1970 and 1972 (http://www.provide.net/~cfh/gibson.html#serial.)

I'm pretty sure what you have is an EB-3 L, or "long scale". It has the characteristic slotted head and the bridge is much closer to the tail than the standard EB-3 with a 30.5 " scale. I looked at a 3 month eBay history and really nice ones sold for around $1200. $500 sounds OK but you never can tell exactly what something will bring.
E-beast is the way of getting the maximum cash for an instrument but you have to be willing to list for possibly a year and maintain a minimum price before you get what you want. I believe economists refer to it as the "greater fool" theory which means that if you wait until the most foolish person with the most money drop (read "collector") comes along you'll get the most cash. Udderwise IMHO SGs of all types are undervalued compared to, for example, Strats or Teles, or conversely they are over valued (I'm looking at the materials and construction costs - the the relative value based on demand. And I am the owner of a 1960 Strat that I picked up in the late 1970s for a reasonable price that's now worth a veritible fortune.).
