my finish is too nice, help

Howdy, I'm having difficulty matching fender's maple neck finishes.  I'm about to do a fretboard after a refret, and was wondering if anyone knows what mix they use.  I generally use a little amber and just a touch of white to make it look a little cloudy and give it less depth.  Their "natural" is usually like this on their current necks.

I wouldn't care if it's too nice. For most of these jobs I use a little amber (like you) or orange shellac mixed with the firsts nitro layers. If it's nicer than the original, my customers are glad.

Put your shader nitro coats on one shade less than the original - it will darken somewhat with age, And if it is a modern neck take some of the gloss off the finish coats by mixing in some matt/matting agent. Otherwize some 0000 steel wool will bring on a used/relic look. R.

Thanks guys. I like the shellac idea. I tried some premixed bullseye brand before on some furniture and it was too cloudy....but might be just right for this job.
I've never had a complaint about the more "natural" clearer finish, but I've always wondered about how to get closer to the original. Got to obsess over something, right?
