FRETS.NET

I was on www.shopgoodwill.com tonight. I must say I am shocked to see some of the guitars I see on this site. It is set up like ebay.  Tonight I saw an old Martin, looks like a 000. Bidding is up to $1,200. I also saw a PRS solid body with bids exceeding $3,000. I am amazed that in this day and age, with resources so readily available, that people are donating things like this. I have attached a couple pictures of the martin if anyone is interested in taking a look. I have to admit I am a bit jealous.

I've got mixed feelings about this kind of thing. On the one hand, if someone has decided to donate something, that is their right. They haven't lost any money if they didn't think it was valuable in the first place.

But turning those donations into immediate money for an organization that, frankly, doesn't do much good for anyone is annoying. I've long ago stopped donating to Goodwill, preferring local places like our local SPCA.

I stopped donating to the local Goodwill here in Macon GA. They cherry pick all the good stuff and ship it elsewhere and all that's left is a lot of clothes, no name brands.  Local stores must make policy because I'm often in Atlanta (80 miles up I-75) and they occasionally have good stuff...keyboards, guitar amps ... I once saw an old blue sparkle Ludwig kit from the 60s.

My peeve is that I donate to help the local community and their policy, at least locally, seems to be to raise money for the national organization.
