Searching for Gibson ES-175 pickup selector switch rubber GROMMET

The title of this discussion is a mouthful!

Nevertheless, this part appears to be an enigma for mere mortals to attain. Does anybody know where I can find the grommet on the right below?

I've searched and found grommets but they are the wrong grommets. The fact remains that no permanent source is currently available - even to Gibson dealers. :(

In the attached photo's you will see two grommets. I need the grommet on the right, not the left.

A similar but WRONG part on the is available through - See links! Allparts, Guitarpartsresouce etc.

These photo's were posted by a person who had this same problem. He achieved his goal of fulfilling his need but he didn't find or list a permanent resource. Gibson is of no help whatsoever even though they use this part for their current Custom line ES-175's. At least the person who also had this problem posted pictures of the correct and incorrect grommets and dimensions. There is a distinct difference between in the picture 1 & 2 between the grommets on the left and right. Picture 3 is of the correct grommet, depicting the bottom and top portions.

Picture #2

Picture # 3 - I need the unit depicted below! Left side is the top view while the right is the bottom.

Thanks in for your help!

Hi Scott,

You may like to search through this attached chart (Google it) - nobody out there has the correct grommet by the look of it.  These guys may be able to approximate a commercial grommet that fits  - I don't know the dimension of the part so you will have to search yourself.

Good Luck bloke, Rusty.

Thanks Russell, I'll look into that. At any rate; here are the dimensions should this be any further clue to those out there that might know where to find this elusive critter. Thanks! Scott

Any idea if the newest Gibson ES-175's even use the 'same' grommet as yesteryear? They may have 'tooled up' for something different.

I think that you can make it happen with some modifications.... (to the grommet) ...of course!

Is the original one missing or simply unusable?

Good luck in your search!!!

Rod

Cheek out your car parts dealers and also some of the Elec lighted funiture.

Rod/William: The current reissue ES-175 (1959) >LINK> use the same grommet. I would believe that Gibson gets this from some vendor but that vendor is in the same vault as King Tut's treasure and the recipe for Coca~Cola. I was hoping for a short cut here. I could use the current grommet from Allparts but I'll need to modify it. The whole idea of the grommet is to diminish the noise created by quickly snapping the switch. My grommet is cracked and eventually it might crumble and I'd like to have a backup or at least know where to buy this part. At my current rate; I might find the part by the time I actually require the part!

I just find it difficult to accept that Gibson can source this part yet no one else can. Though, I run across this in other industries but the product was infinitely more secretive and the margin was very high.

Thanks! Scott

Scott, it's not really rare for a manufacturer to have parts from a supplier with a modification specific for them. Gibson many not require millions of these but it could be that they use enough to make it worth paying for some modification to the supplier's tooling. My experience is that the modified/unique part is usually only available from your OEM, in this case Gibson .  I'm not saying this is the case here. I honestly have no idea. I'm just pointing out that "special" parts that are slightly different from what is available to the public are not uncommon in manufacturing.
