Hey all,
I'm looking for a suitable wood to make some test bridges, mostly to gain experience but also to use as mockups. I obviously don't want to use valuable stuff like rosewood, ebony, etc. but something that will simulate those characteristics with saws and sanders. Also a little cheaper! These will most likely never sit on a guitar.
Any suggestions?
I'd give a call to LMI or another luthier supplier - they might be able to fix you up with some "seconds" or scrap pieces that have flaws (knots, warps,. cracks, etc.) of the "real" material - rosewood, ebony or whatever. That way you'll get the feel of working with tropical hardwoods.
Thanks Frank. Never would have thought of that.
