Howdy.
What do you more experienced men imagine the bracing and genreral construction of this guitar to be like? Wouldn't the tension be about 250 pounds? Would a soundpost be a practical addition?

4 bridge drs. and safety goggles?That/those is a Martin?
It is a shot from the NAMM show.
Steel I-beam X frame with a stressed aluminum/wood skin lamination?

I'm not sure where you are thinking of using a post but maybe this would be a candidate for a double bridge doc. sort of device. (as Tim suggested) It seems to me that a sound post is used to transmit vibrations to the back of a violin more than it is used to support the bridge. I would be afraid that a sound post in a guitar would mute the vibration of the top since we tend to hold the back against our bodies.

I think this guitar is kind of cool and I wouldn't mind having one to use sometimes. It might be a bit big for a constant diet. My group at church is working on a song now where it would come in handy to be able to change instruments in mid song.

Have you guys seen the "picasso" made by Linda Manzer ? you won't believe it, google it . It was made for Pat Metheny
Yeah, I've seen it too and I can't figure out what keeps it from folding up. I also don't know how anyone can play it.

I put a new top on an Espano and it had x plus Lattice bracing. I think the necks on it were not strong enoff. I had to replace the tuners on the one neck and you could bend the two head piece far enoff apart to get the screws in and out. I reinforst the top a round the neck block real good but it was no time until the action was to hi. I think they were just built for a conversation piece. If I were building one I would put a 3\4" dowel down from head block to tail block to stiffen the body up . Good luck Bill.::::::::::::
Bill,
Is it that you don't think the neck block can reasonable be made strong enough to support both necks without extra support or is it just that the Espano used blocks that were too small?

How about thickening the sides a bit then installing a spar from the waist on each side to the head block just under the face? I seen some guitars on the net with bracing like this and it seems to be a promising way to deal with the extra stress on the block.

Ned
Ned I just don't think that the top structure will support that much pull that the 18 strings put on it .If you were to put a 3/4" wood dowel throught the two end blocks more to wards the top side you would now have more support for the neck . Or any thing you could come up with that would work similar to that as you need to take that pressure from the neck away from the top. That is the way it apears to me after having one a part and seeing what happend after. But I would still go with the Lattices bracing to help support the top as well as a3/16th's maple bridge plate for both bridges Bill."""""""""
Maybe a steel rod like the old Larson / Prairie State guitars. Maybe with a turnbuckle for adjustment?

Ned
What do you think is the pressure of the strings?
Ned the old Fender 12 strings had a steel pipe down the centre from block to block threaded with a 3'' flange & jam nut on the bottom end. I couldn't figer out how you were suppost to titen the jam nut as I could never get my hand any were near it . Rick I have no idea how much pressure the strings would have on the top. Bill."""""""""""
Who made this instrument?
