Schaller FR retrofit

Can anyone help here?   A potential customer has an Ibanez Edge Pro with a clapped-out tremolo. He's heard good reviews of the Schaller and Gotoh FR systems and would like a retro -fit. Does anyone know if this can be done without any additional routing.. I need to know so that I can give him a price.

Hey Dave,
I've used the schallers before to replace a floyd rose bridge. I did have to grind down the bottom (spring attachment area) , but that might have just been the guitar, (a thin shred machine) as I remember. But the hole spacing is the same. I had to put in a filler piece where the rose adjustment screws extended in the back, but that was just a cosmetic concern. I do remember that it was the best one for the job. You could always call allparts and ask them for a footprint of the base plate if you need to be completely sure.

Thanks Ry. I did actually go to Allparts(UK) and they've reassured me that it will be a straightforward swap. Incidentally I've gone for the Gotoh FR . It's going to give the customer a cheaper job but having read the jemsite reviews i'm happy that he's getting the best option. Apparently Gotoh made the original Floyd-Rose trems and are credited with producing the best most stable version, with a lower profile and at a cheaper price, so I'm happy that I've made the best choice. At first glance I don't think I'm going to have to make any but minor alterations, as the Ibanez RG is fairly standard thickness.

Schaller Floyds come with two lengths of sustain block (the block that the springs fit into) - you need to specify short or long when ordering otherwize you may find the block poking out the back of the guitar. Schaller Floyds also come with easily replaceable (and obtainable) hardened steel knife edge inserts which make them suitable for extended operation and quick line level maintenance. I've used Ibanez Low Pro trems in my RG's (the ones with the hardened steel inserts) and they are fine - but, the cheap Gotoh Trems without the hardened INSERT edges are not for professional use and quickly lose their tuning accuracy as the soft metal plates lose their edges.
