Gibson Fret Nibs

Hello Folks!

 

I am certain many of you are aware of the infamous Gibson Binding fret nibs and the gap that often becomes troublesome due to the nature of the material involved. The gap is precisely between the fret and the neck binding. I've used light cure 3m substrates and other fill material but my question is this: What material or solution is floating out there for fret nib gaps that are =/- 0.008 mm? In other words, its more of mental nuisance than a string hook at this point.

 

The picture doesn't show the nibs. It is only an image of the nibs (for lack of a better term) as they appear at the end of many Gibson Les Paul frets. Oh, and re fretting and cutting them off isn't an option. Vintage mojo/voodoo going on...

 Thick Super glue should do it .

Indeed, just fishing for new and better technology. I've used 3m light cure composite but for large gaps and nut filler.

A slurry of color matched binding material melted in acetone provides the first step for addressing this issue.  Use it like you'd use Bondo filler on a car.

Put it where you need it, let it dry, shape & polish. 

I believe Dan E. covers this subject in his repair guide. If you don't have it...get it SOON.

Hey Paul, Yeah, I've used the thick and thin CA glue and I found it can manipulated to some extent as it's setting up. Though, I've had best results using an accelerator to minimize air pockets. As for Dan E, I have it but was looking for more info as this forum rocks in terms of fantastic input. 

As I mentioned to Mr. Eden above; I am constantly fishing for better technology and mind bending solutions :)
