A great trip to the Goodwill today....... Hows abouts yous?

I had a really nice visit to the goodwill today. I found myself an espresso machine (that works) for my neck steamer and right next to it were 2 coffee cup warmers that I plan to use as a glue pot and a heating pad for bridges. Then I came across 3 frosting spreaders which I have found to be the greatest bridge removers on the world.I also found a 10 inch abalone shell, but I talked myself out of buying it because I just don't see having the time to grind it down to usable pieces. Finally, I found the George Winston December album, which makes for the greatest shop music from late October through December.... I just wanted to throw this out there because it was exciting for me to find these tools and I was hoping to spark some memories for other exciting 2nd hand treasures anyone has come across.... I am new to repair, but I too have used a frosting spreader to detach two fretboard extensions preparatory to neck reset. Also a big help was the hair dryer I picked up on the same trip, and the fondue pot base. That was a lot of equipment for less than $5.

And then the REAL Kicker.
A 1940 D-28 hiding back in the corner in an old battered case!!!!!

But, I went to Elderly Instruments today and found an "as is" 1936 Martin 00-17, that I'm pretty excited with, even though it's in need of repair.

That is really wonderful. I have drempt of that kind of find, but that along with winning the lottery seem too far out of reach for someone with my streaks of luck. What type of shape was the Martin in (the 40's), and may I ask what they wanted for it. I have found some chipboard cases and I have seen some real junk guitars that have $80 price tags on them, but never once have I seen one worth anything at all. You must have some good karma.

I think they threw her away about 2 weeks after Barbed Wire hit the theaters, but you could always invest in some of that friendly plastic that Frank wrote about and make a clone... Thanks for the laugh Mr. Vance.

I'm just kidding about the 1940 D-28, and finding one at Goodwill.

The 00-17 I bought at Elderly's is for real, but being they are a dealer in vintage instruments I didn't get a steal on it, but paid a fair price.
