Chop veggies and protect your guitar at the same time...

These are flexible cutting boards I received with the purchase of a Vita-mix blender. I returned the blender but kept the cutting boards (part of the promo). They make the GREATEST top guards I've ever used, being both exceedingly tough yet flexible enough to lay flat on the top. I have eight of them now cut for various tops. I got another set of four on eBay for $19 shipped. One word of advice if you decide to go this route: cut a template from cardboard first, as a pattern to be used as a cutting guide on the real thing. And use a heavy linoleum knife with a new blade, making several passes. I used my bandsaw where it made sense.

This one fits an HD-28.

This is cut to fit a D35.

 What a great idea!

That's great,I was able to string up the guitar without worrying about damage

But now.......how do I get the bu...er off?

I haven't strung a guitar with the guard in place, but a slit down the centerline from the back of the bridge cutout to the back edge of the guard would allow for install and removal with the strings on. Thanks for the inspiration!

How about a single slit from the fingerboard to the bridge?

Hey Mark-- Gee ya know - I play guitar as well as fixen them but I also dabble in the kitchen and that is a cool tool  :)

The VitaMix mats look heavy duty.  I've mentioned the flexible cutting mats I buy at Walmart which are similar but maybe thinner, but the price is right: 3 for $4.64.  Hesch uses the plastic corrugated For Sale signs which provide a lot more protection.

I keep coming across electromechanical projects that use old plastic cutting board too. I think it's time to hit the local charity stories to buy up their stocks before someone else beats me to it.

Robby, with the plastic corrugated ones, you could just about drop a humbucker  from a foot or so on the top, and it wouldn't do anything...

Maybe you should make a video of the experiment? ;-)

If you have an Ikea nearby they have a 1/16" thick X 11.5 X 14.5x version for $2/pack of 2.

I do like the look of those Vitamix mats. They look like a see-through negligee - giving new meaning to "guitar porn."

It's a cutting board Robbie......a see-through nightie does not look like a kitchen utensil.   You've been working too hard - you need to take a break.  It may already be too late........
