I do hope this is not a stupid question, but here goes. ‘Management’ has’ requested’ less floor space is taken up by guitars on stands. If I hang them from the wall will they suffer in any way or is hanging a guitar by its neck safe? I have a few Hercules guitar hangers knocking around from a closed down music shop that would do the trick. Cheers, Steve

I hang my guitars because, like Ned, I seem to play them more that way. I've been using String Swing brand with the wooden base for at least a decade. Never had finish problems. I shoot for mounting into the wall studs. I can easily keep an eye on them for humidity problems. Those old tripod stands are evil.
Tommy, I think the tripod was originally called a "guillotine" when they invented it. LOL
Use (2) 2" minimum length screws on the Hercules hangers, make sure it is centered on a wall stud (hits wood behind the drywall).
Not sure about now, but these Hercules hangers used to come with plastic anchors, THROW THESE AWAY....
Unless you are mounting to a masonry wall, do not use these for drywall......
Agreed!
Here is a pic of how I installed some of the many Hercules hangers in my shop. I attached them to red oak board with three wood screws per hanger and the wood screws go completely through the red oak boards. The red oak boards are attached to the wall with lag bolts, 3.5" located one at ever stud location which makes for four lag bolts to hang 4 guitars.
Although not a great pic with the dim lighting that I keep in my office area off my shop you get the idea I'm sure.
By the way I really like the Hercules hangers and would recommend them wholeheartedly except for the fact that a case is even better.... ;)
For years now I have had jam sessions nearly weekly and we do this in my shop. A bunch of middle aged guys (code for old farts....) having fun and guitar stands are not allowed. I always make sure that everyone has an available Hercules hanger for their personal ax. We do get carried away.... frequently.... and stuff does get run into, drooled on..., etc. and stands are just asking for trouble with my friends...
