My first broken headstock project is turning out much better than I anticipated.  More work than expected, but gaining more confidence and experience.  I've started to think about the finish process.

I've used HVLP guns with compressor in the past with very poor results.  And I could never figure out the viscosity to needle size issue.  So I'm considering a HVLP system now and actually have been for some time.  When I looked at them 10 years ago the main complaint seemed to be the finish dried too fast due to the warm air supplied from the turbine.  Don't know if this is still an issue or not.

Done a fair amount of internet research the past few days, and it seems Fuji and Accuspray are on top of the list.  3M recently bought Accuspray and moved the plant to Panama.  There are some current shortages, however I can't imagine it will be a problem if 3M is the owner.

I would like to get some input from the luthiers out there due to their special needs.  I also don't want to get more machine than I need.  Your opinion???

DEVILLE OR BINKS IF THATS CORRECT ?I MAY HAVE MISSPELLED ?
Mack Before you get cairred away with expensive equipment let me tell you what I use. I bought a sprayer from Lee Valley for something like $50.00 and i find that for sprying Lacquar on Instruments It dose a very good job At least I can make the people from the City stop for a nother look, I have two of them. I spray at 30 lbs psi for Lacquar and 45lbs for coluar. If you are interested let me know I will get you the info on them. They are a very simple sprayers I can leave mine sit for as long as I like with out taking the Lacquer out and just take some Lacquar thiners and clean the nosel off an start spraying again. P,S now this outfit may not cost enof for you but this is what I use. Good luck Bill.""""""""""""
I have fixed quite a few headstock breaks and have used an airbrush with a small electric airbrush compressor with good success. Because necks are narrow you don't have to have large areas wet to get a good finish plus tinting is real controlable with the airbrush. I also have a small "jam gun"and compressor that I use to put the clear coat on when neccesary
