Cocobolo??

 Hi my friends can anyone tell me were I can buy a nice set of Cocobolo. And is there any problems as far as glueing it up or finishing???? Thanks for any help you can give me Bill..........

I've found great sets at Hibdon hardwoods as well as the other suppliers, and no, I've never had problems with gluing or finishing.  I do use the smiths all wood expoxy on the back center joint, but LMI white glue on all else.

Thanks Glen& Mark for your help Iam trying to get a set from Hibdons as of now I had not ever heard of that site befor. Did you ever try  acetone on the joint befor glueing? Bill.......

Bill, I've used a lot of coco and I wipe it down with lacquer thinners before glue up. It's worked for me with no failures.

I've heard of some recommending a solvent wipedown, usually acetone, but I've also heard others say it creates more problems than it solves.  I've never used a solvent before gluing and also have never had problems without it.  You can do some testing on scraps to convince yourself if you feel inclined.

Pen turners love this stuff, but it is kind of oily. I glue it up immediately after cutting or sanding, so that the surface doesn't have time to get oily again.

Just watch out for allergy/sensitivity.  You might not be sensitive to it but many people (including me) are.  I get a cough and breathlessness for days after sanding it (hypersensitivity pneumonitis).  I heard of a guy who took a trip to the bathroom after sanding some coco - with a bit of sawdust on his hands.  Very nasty penile reaction ensued.  Wear a mask and wash your hands!  But it is gorgeous wood.
