Hi all,

I have a madeira A30R acoustic gutiar that has a neck angle issue and i was wondering what kind of glue they used in it. it has one stud through the block with a nut and thats it. I removed the nut and was trying to steam the neck off and it doesn't even budge and it makes me think its not even wood glue of any kind. Any ideas??

Thanks.

Are you sure that there is not a stud higher up that is hard to see? And why would there be glue in a bolt-on neck anyways? And how would you pull the neck up from the glue joint with a big bolt in the way? Not trying to be a smartass, but this is not making a whole lot of sense. Did you loosen the fingerboard extension already?

Madeira was Guild's import brand in the 70's, you might try the Let's Talk Guild forum, although it appears that those folks mostly say "Gah, what garbage!!"  http://letstalkguild.com/phpBB2/index.php

Yeah the fingerboard is loose and the only 1 nut has been removed. Still no movement in the heel. I supposed i may have to just saw it off at this point.

This *may* be similar to a Japanese Conn that I reset several years ago.

Jeffrey,

Maybe you should post these over on the neck joint thread so that it becomes part of that collection.

Jeffery: If I'm seeing things right it looks like the dovetail is attached to the fingerboard extension and slides into a pocket? What an interesting neck joint. It must have been a bit of an adventure getting it apart!

Doug: Your eyes are not deceiving you!  Luckily for me, I'd been doing bolt-on conversions on Yamahas for some time, so the hangerbolt tipped me off.  As I recall, once I'd removed the nut, I stressed the neck in all directions, to see if it would let go, and the lightly AMG-ed butt joint cracked loose; the dovetail under the fingerboard extension was very lightly glued, if at all.

Ned: Yes, I will--do you think there should be a subgallery, "AMJ"?

Michael:  That really takes the AMJ, "Nasty Surprises", Award!  BTW--when I do Yamaha resets anymore, I always saw them off; I've had too many problems with neckblocks steaming loose before the DT joint would let go.

Hey Jeffrey thanks for the info. I decided to saw the neck off and sure enough is had 4 dowels and a stud. kinda odd and made it hard to get off the neck clean since i couldn't saw through the stud. In hind sight I might have been able to unscrew it from the heel inside the guitar through the neck block. Needless to say i didn't think of that until after i got it off and it tore up the rosewood sides some. This ones gonna need some extra love! The Asian mystery glue strikes again!

I hope all you repair men have the right saw for cutting off they's necks? It is a Multi-purpose Oscillating tool. $35.00 All you have to do is tape a piece of shim steal to the side of the guitar were you are going to make your cut and it don't mark the finish  at all. Sorry Michael I should have told you sooner Bill...........

Gotta link to that saw Bill?

It is made by Powerfist .This is what it looks like Paul.

Thanks for the info Bill, That will make things go a lot smoother next time. I wasn't fully prepared for what i got myself into this time i admit, but I know better next time. That is what counts the most right? I will be getting one of those multi-purpose oscillating tools soon.

Thanks Bill.  I appreciate it.

That's the type of tool I thought you were describing.

Take care & thx again (-:
