I went to college with a fellow student from Iran who played the Tar.  When he first mentioned it I thought he said "guitar."  He politely corrected me and said "no 'gui,' just 'tar.'" and smiled.  He brought it to our art studios one day - very fascinating instrument.  Lovely sound!  I've wanted one ever since!
