Considering it's a tune-o-matic equiped guitar, why not consider a Khaler tune-o-matic mount?
I just searched it what model would fit it Pierre?
The model designed to be installed on guitars equipped with TOM. You'll have to make some changes, and double check that neck angle is enough.
You will regret chopping up this guitar (others might not agree!). If you like this guitar the way it is now (you said it was nice) I advise not attempting a Floyd install. You'll end up with a hacked up DD that will lose ALL it's resale value. Plus, in 5 years, you may/will feel differently about Floyds in general. Don't get me wrong, I love Floyds and have installed many and have owned guitars with them since 1985. If you want a Floyd equipped guitar, buy one. All the difficult issues will already be sorted out (recessed vs. over the body, neck angle issues, locking nut installation and function etc.). Just don't buy a cheap one, as Floyd copies don't hold up over time (inferior materials). Get a genuine, not licensed, Floyd and you'll not regret spending the extra dough. Skip Ibanez, Washburns and the like. These imports are sub par. Good luck!
Hi Ian, I could not agree with Mark more. Also, I have found the recent generation (not the originals) of kahlers to be unsatisfactory for heavy trem work - they are total dogs regarding holding tune - even with the implementation of the page of mods and fixes that you need to do to get them to work. Rusty.
I agree about not chopping the guitar, buy a FR equipped guitar and be done with it. And what has been said about the license versions of FR's is also so true: I've seen cheap copies that were so badly made you could just see that they were only going to last about 10 mins :-)
If you do buy a FR, buy the Schaller version, the string blocks are made out of steel, and don't wear out like the genuine FR ones, which seem to be made from some kind of alloy, with surface hardening. Funnily enough, I think genuine FR's are made by Schaller anyway: I have a boxed genuine FR here in the shop, and when you turn it over it says made in Germany. Go figure.....
Original Floyd Rose are made by Schaller, I confirm.
