Been wanting to 'play' with installing a few LEDS in the fingerboard, and fiberoptics.  Can't seem to find a good supplier of these items....that doesn't require a 500ft roll of the stuff !!  LOL!  Anyone ever use it and what vendor ??

Many thanks!!

I would be VERA surprised if RadioShack did not have almost everything you need...

If the Shack doesn't have it, try your local hobby shop.

Thanks for the suggestion. BUT, Radio Shack really do not have  the right stuff, and is not 'professional grade' anyway.

These guys do it - http://www.fretlight.com/ - which I'm sure is what you refer to.

I actually payed one of these the other day - the action wasn't bad, the fretboard was rigid enough, and I found it impossible to follow the damn dots at all - pretty ridiculous, but it looks cool.

The fretboard is a plastic of some kind, and there is a thin layer of something between the fretboard and the neck, I presume for wiring and such.

Thanks Mark...but I am looking for components to build with.  That is basically a plastic toy.

Need the manf. or distributor of fiber optics and LEDS.

Just thinking aloud here, but have you tried American Science & Surplus? They always seem to have lots of cool optical stuff.

Best of luck with your search (:.

For LEDs, I would recommend Mouser or Digi-Key.  They're more than happy to sell small quantities of components to hobbyists.  I've ordered from them both in the past without any problems.

Digi-Key also sells fiber optic cable by the meter, but it's the fancy multi-strand jacketed stuff, so it may be overkill for what you're doing.  If you want just the bare fiber optic material, I'll second the recommendation that you try a hobby shop.  Go someplace that caters to model railroaders and they can probably find what you need in the Walthers catalog.

Thanks for all teh help!  I think Mouser and a Walther catalog is my way to go.
